We believe food is a driver.

Healthy neighborhoods thrive on local economy driven by local food businesses and opportunity. In a historically disinvested neighborhood with little to no local food options and few gathering spaces, we are excited to bring culinary vibrance and diversity to Middlebury and Akron as a part of The Well CDC’s 2019 Neighborhood Plan.

Neighborhood Plan

In 2019, neighbors, nonprofit and community organization leaders, and business owners came together to outline a plan that connects people TO Middlebury, not just allows them to move THROUGH Middlebury. Factory 816 is a direct result of work that began years ago, building upon Planning Principle #3;

Explore Opportunities for Entrepreneurship & Reuse.

Entrepreneurship & Reuse

Planning Principle #3’s goal was to respond to the available underutilized and strategically located warehouse stock in the community to uncover opportunities that are inclusive of an ethnically diverse and working-class neighborhood. Factory 816 is a living picture of repurposing historically significant infrastructure to support local economy.
